Description
Aubrey's Barn is a former barn that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and underwent conversion in the late 20th century. The structure is built of random coursed rubble stone and features a stone slate roof. On the north side, there is a large projecting gabled former cart entry that has been filled in with stonework and windows. The original side doorway on the east side has a timber lintel. There is a flush entry on the south side, also with a timber lintel, which is now glazed. A lean-to on the west side of the projecting entry has cambered tiebeams and has also been converted. Inside, the barn has collar and tiebeam trusses, likely in four bays, with part of the interior open to the roof. The original pitch hole on the west wall has been glazed in, and the remaining new openings are mainly square single glazed lights. Aubrey's Barn was originally part of a farm complex that included Turk's Yard, Tallett Steps, and another barn to the north, all of which are now separate. The barn is included for its group value.
