Description
These are three cottages, including a former post office, likely built in the late 17th century. They are constructed of rubble stone, with the right-hand section featuring a door to No 40 made of coursed rubble stone, which is probably slightly newer. The cottages have a stone slate roof with four stacks: one rendered, two brick ridge stacks, and one end stack made of concrete blocks on the right.
The building is a single long range with a partial rear lean-to behind Nos 41 and 41A, consisting of one storey and an attic. There are five gabled dormers on the eaves, each with two-light wooden casements, and the eaves line of the dormers is lower than that of the rear. The ground floor has four boarded doors, three of which have a small single light above them.
To the right of No 40, there is a three-light chamfered stone mullion window. Next door, there is a glazed oval light in a stone surround along with an adjacent two-light wooden casement. To the right of 41A, there are two two-light wooden casements, and to the right of 41, there is a three-light iron casement. All the windows feature timber lintels.
