Description
Tallett Steps is a former stable building with a loft and an adjoining animal shelter to the east, which has been converted into a dwelling. It dates from the mid to late 18th century. The stable block is primarily constructed of coursed rubble stone and features a stone slate roof, with a stone stack at the eastern end. In the center of the block, there is a flight of 12 stone steps leading up to a loft door located under a single gable, with a kennel hole beneath. On the ground floor, there is a single square light on the inside and a door on the outside; to the left is a stable door. All doors and windows are part of a late 20th-century conversion. The adjoining cowshelter originally had five open bays and one closed bay next to the stable, with rubble stone piers; it has now been glazed in as two twin-bay units with a central throughway. This building was originally part of a farm complex that included Turk's Yard, Aubrey's Barn, and a barn to the north, which are now all separate.
