Description

The war memorial in Skelmersdale, located on Sandy Lane, was built around 1920 to commemorate those who served in the First World War. It is made of white stone and features a pedestal with a statue. The memorial stands on a base of three square steps, with a chamfered plinth and a moulded foot. The tapered square pedestal has a moulded cap and is topped by a small statue of a soldier holding a rifle in a relaxed position. The pedestal includes inlaid lettering on all sides that lists the names of the fallen, with additional names from the Second World War inscribed on the plinth.
