Description

Farmhouse. It was likely built in the early to mid-18th century, with two or more building phases, and has been altered and recently extended. The farmhouse is constructed of large dressed sandstone blocks, with a rear wing of coursed squared sandstone and handmade red brick. It has stone slate roofs. The building is arranged in a T-shape, consisting of a rectangular, single-depth, three-bay main range and a rear wing, with a lean-to outbuilding attached to the west side of the rear wing. It has two storeys and a cellar, with three windows across the front, arranged symmetrically. The elevation features a high, moulded plinth that runs around the building (except at the rear of the third bay). The central doorway has a raised keystone on a plain rectangular lintel, with an altered door, and the windows have large lintels and altered glazing. Gable chimneys are present. A recent addition is visible at the left end. The right-hand gable wall has a blocked two-light mullioned cellar window. At the rear, the first bay of the rear wing has remains of a blocked window at mid-level, largely covered by the lean-to. The two-bay rear wing was built in two phases; the first section is in stone and was raised with brick when the second bay was added. It features altered windows on the east side, a lean-to addition on the west side, a 20th-century glazed porch at the rear, and two low four-light casement windows on the first floor. Inside the main range, there is a lateral entrance hall formed by thick stone partition walls. The rooms on either side, and both rooms in the rear wing, have stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The rooms on the first floor of the main range are noticeably higher than those on the ground floor. The farmhouse is linked to a spa or former holy well located nearby. It forms a group with the barn approximately 30 meters to the north.
