Description
Lathom House Almshouses are a group of almshouses, probably built in the 17th century, that have been altered and restored. They are constructed of sandstone random rubble, with the east side featuring scored render and a composition tile roof. The building is arranged in an L-plan, consisting of a main range on a north-south axis that includes Nos 1-6, which is attached to the north gable of the Chapel of St John. There is also a westward return at the north end containing Nos 7-11.
The almshouses are single storey plus attics, with one window for each unit. The main range has windows and doorways mostly arranged in alternating pairs, while the west range features windows and doors in single alternation. The doorways are square-headed with hoodmoulds and board doors, and the windows, which are set in round-headed blank arches, are 20th-century three-light casements. There are chimneys located behind the ridge. At the rear, there are low single-storey 20th-century additions and dormer windows. The almshouses form a group with the Chapel of St John and the associated Stable Block located at the rear.
