Description
The Lathom War Memorial is made of sandstone and stands 0.80 meters high. It features a Latin cross with a plain square tapering chamfered shaft, which is set on a 1.6-meter tall square plinth that is also tapering and chamfered, consisting of two stages. This plinth rests on a stone base made up of two square steps.
The eastern face of the plinth displays the main incised painted inscription, which reads: 1914 – 1918 / TO THE GLORIOUS / MEMORY OF "THESE" / WHO DIED IN MANY LANDS / THAT WE MIGHT LIVE HERE / IN PEACE. / (NAMES).
On the lower, stepped section of the plinth, there is another incised painted inscription that says: PASS FRIEND, ALL'S WELL.
The southern face of the memorial features an incised painted inscription listing the names of those who fell in the Second World War, preceded by the inscription: 1939 – 1945 / ALSO THESE WHO GAVE / THEIR LIVES.
