Description
This building is a barn and shippon located approximately 30 metres north-east of Sutches Farmhouse. It is likely from the late 18th century and has been altered. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. It is probably arranged in three bays plus two bays, oriented east-west and facing south. The former shippon is located in the first bay, with an outshut in front of it, and a broader east end that projects to the front and rear. The second bay includes a waggon porch at the angle with the outshut of the first bay, both under a carried-down roof. The projected east end has a central doorway with a plain surround and two 12-pane fixed windows above. The east gable wall has a window and doorway at ground level, along with a loading door above. The west gable wall features three former shippon doorways that have been altered into windows, while the rear of the building is generally similar to the front. This barn and shippon forms a group with Sutches Farmhouse, a stable or granary on the east side of the farmyard, and a cart shed or stable on the west side of the yard.
