Description
These are a pair of cottages, now combined into a single dwelling. They were likely built in the mid-18th century and have been altered, probably with an additional storey added at some point. The ground floor is constructed of coursed thin sandstone rubble, while the upper floor is of coursed squared sandstone. The roof is covered in stone slates, and there are brick chimneys.
The cottages have a two-unit plan including a rear outshut. They are two storeys high with a symmetrical façade of one window plus one window. A doorway with a thin lintel and a 20th-century door is on the left side, and patched masonry indicates a former doorway was located on the right. The ground-floor windows have thin lintels and 20th-century casements, likely replacing original three-light windows or sliding sash windows. Above, there are small, square, two-light casements. A chimney sits on the ridge where the two cottages meet.
The rear of the building features two doorways and three windows, all with thin lintels, and two smaller two-light windows above. The cottages are part of a noteworthy group of buildings at Garnett Lees.
