Description

The Plough and Harrow Hotel is a public house located on Ormskirk Road in Up Holland. It was probably built in the late 18th century or early 19th century and has been altered and enlarged over time. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone, with the left side being watershot, and has random rubble on the sides and rear. It features stone slate roofs on two levels and has an L-plan layout, consisting of a double-depth main range with a single-depth continuation to the right, along with various 20th-century additions at the rear.

The hotel is two storeys high, with the main range being taller and featuring a symmetrical arrangement of windows, specifically two sets of two windows. The main range has a 20th-century gabled porch at the second bay, a large rectangular window to the left, and two similar windows above. There are gable chimneys on both sections. The extension to the right also has a similar porch, which is offset, and features two similar windows on each floor, along with a gable chimney. The ground floor windows have altered glazing, while the upper windows are transomed 6-light top-hung casements.

The interior has been altered as well. The Plough and Harrow Hotel is part of an interesting group of buildings at Garnett Lees.
