Description
Ormskirk Lodge, dating from around 1730 and designed by Giacomo Leoni, serves as the entrance lodge to Lathom Park. It features an attached screen wall and gate pier. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar and coursed squared sandstone, topped with a slate roof. The gate pier is positioned next to the drive and has concave quadrant walls at both the front and rear, with the lodge connected to the rear wall.
The lodge has an octagonal shape and stands two stories tall, featuring a plinth, a rusticated ground floor, a first-floor band, and altered eaves. There is a square-headed doorway on the south side, surrounded by a Gibbs surround, with an altered door. The ground floor has tall windows with altered glazing, consisting of 18-pane top-hung casements, while the first floor has square 9-pane windows. A chimney and a small 20th-century extension are located at the rear.
The high screen walls rise at the south end to connect with the gate pier, which is adorned with pilasters featuring prominent frost-worked bands, a pediment, and a round-headed niche with a keystone. This lodge forms a group with Lathom Lodge.
