Description
Preston Lodge North, along with its attached screen wall and gate, is one of a pair of entrance lodges to Lathom Park, which is now a private dwelling in separate ownership. This structure likely dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and has undergone alterations. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof and a cast-iron gate.
The lodge is a small square building that is incorporated into a straight screen wall, with a gate pier at the southern end. It is a single-storey structure with a moulded cornice and a pyramidal roof, and it has one 9-pane sashed window on the outer wall. Inside the screen wall, there is a similar window on the opposite side, along with a small extension at the rear corner that includes a doorway. Additionally, there is a small 20th-century greenhouse located in the angle with the screen wall. The screen wall ends at a tall square gate pier, which has a moulded cornice and supports a large ornamental cast-iron gate. This lodge forms a functional pair with Preston Lodge South.
