Description
Preston Lodge South, with an attached screen wall and gate, is one of a pair of entrance lodges to Lathom Park, now a private dwelling in separate ownership. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and has been altered. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a slate roof and features a cast-iron gate. The small square lodge is integrated into a straight screen wall, which has a gate pier at the north end. The single-storey lodge has a moulded cornice and a pyramidal roof, with one 9-pane top-hung casement window in the outer wall. Inside the screen wall, there is a similar window on the opposite side, a small window facing the drive, and a 20th-century single-storey extension to the south and east. The screen wall ends at a tall square gate pier with a moulded cornice, which supports a large ornamental cast-iron gate. This lodge forms a functional pair with Preston Lodge North.
