Description
This is a barn located approximately 20 metres west of Fairwall Farmhouse, dated 1672 on the lintel of its doorway, though it may be older and has undergone alterations. The barn is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. It comprises three or four bays, with the first bay set back at both the front and rear, which may indicate it is an addition. There is a later lean-to addition at the front of this bay and an altered addition at the right end. The barn has various openings, but the most notable is the front doorway, which has a lintel with raised lettering that reads "1672 IHAHRH". The interior has been altered but still includes one full cruck truss raised on a high stone base, featuring a collar yoke and a tie beam made from light scantling and of poor quality, positioned just above the housings for an earlier tie beam.
