Description
The stables and coach house to Rockcliffe House, likely built in the mid to late 19th century, are constructed from dressed sandstone and feature slate roofs with stone gable copings, hipped at the front ends. The building consists of three ranges arranged around a quadrangle, with a screen wall and gates at the open east end, while the north range is detached. The structure is two storeys high, with half-height screen walls that ramp down to square gate piers at the inner ends, and doorways at the outer ends. The west range includes a high segmental-headed wagon archway with rusticated voussoirs, various altered openings at the ground floor, and three bullseyes with archivolts on the first floor. The south range features three flat-headed garage doorways, a round-headed doorway with imposts and a keystone, and large sashed windows with glazing bars on the first floor, with bullseyes at the outer ends. The rear of this range, which overlooks the garden of Rockcliffe House, has six large round-headed panels separated by an impost band and three chimney stacks on the side wall. The detached north range is L-shaped in plan and includes a coachman's cottage at the east end.
