7/41 Stables and Coach House to Rockcliffe House - - II

Stables and coachhouse to Rockcliffe House, probably mid to later C19. Dressed sandstone, slate roofs with stone gable copings but hipped at front ends. Three ranges of building round a quadrangle with screen wall and gates to open east end (north range detached). Two storeys; ½-height screen walls have inner ends ramped down to square gate piers, doorways at outer ends; opposed west range has high segmental-headed wagon archway with rusticated voussoirs, various altered openings at ground floor, 3 bullseyes with archivolts at 1st floor. South range has 3 flat-headed garage doorways, a round-headed doorway with imposts and keystone, and at 1st floor large sashed windows with glazing bars, with bullseyes at the outer ends; rear of this range, overlooking garden to Rockcliffe House (q.v.) has 6 large round-headed panels with an impost band between them, and 3 side wall chimney stacks. Detached north range in matching style is L-shaped in plan, incorporating a coachman's cottage at the east end.
