Description
The gate piers at the entrance of the drive to Rockcliffe House were likely built around 1890. They are made of sandstone ashlar and consist of six square-section piers, each approximately 3 meters high. The four central piers frame the main and side gateways, although the gates are currently missing. These central piers are connected to the outer piers by a curved wall that once supported railings, which are also now absent. The piers feature vermiculated bands and dentilled caps with segmental-headed faces, all of which are elaborately carved and unique. The round-topped finials on top of the piers have recessed fanlight-carved faces, but the finials are missing from the innermost pair.
