Description

Lowlands Farmhouse, along with the barns to the north and south, likely dates from the early 19th century, incorporating remains from the 17th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coarsely textured limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has two bays, with a central entrance and end stacks. The windows are simple stone-surrounded 6-pane sashes. The door jambs are moulded, and the lintel above the door features an inscription "W I S 1678" along with a decorative motif, and "R" and "S" inscribed on either side.

To the left of the farmhouse is an agricultural building of similar construction and with a continuous roof. The ground floor front wall is blank, though the first floor has a pitching hole with a plain stone surround and a segmental arch above. The left-hand gable has a blocked doorway, now converted into a window, featuring long-and-short jambs. To the right of the farmhouse is a barn, also under the continuous roof. It has a wide opening with a segmental arch constructed from punched voussoirs. Adjacent to this is a blocked doorway with a plain stone surround, now a window. The right-hand gable wall features two former shippon doors with plain stone surrounds, now windows. A central door, similarly constructed with long-and-short jambs and an inscribed lintel with a debased 4-centred arch reading "EWS 1671 RS", is also blocked.
