Description

A pair of houses, possibly originally a row, dating from the late 18th century, located in Newton village. The houses are constructed of roughly-shaped rubble stone with a slate roof. They are three storeys high and five bays wide. The windows are tripartite (divided into three sections) with simple stone surrounds and square mullions. Doors are situated between bays two and three, and between bays four and five, each with a plain stone surround. Chimneys are located between bays one and two, between bays three and four, and on the right-hand gable. The west-facing gable has two doors with plain stone surrounds, the right-hand one partially obscured by a modern brick porch. The east-facing gable has a single door and a window, both with plain stone surrounds. The rear wall has a one-light and a two-light window, both with plain stone surrounds. A first-floor doorway, also with a stone surround, is located at the right-hand end and is accessed by external stone steps. The ground level at the rear is raised, revealing a higher rear wall.
