Description
Preston East Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone and features stone slate roofs, with a tile roof on the wing facing the road. The building is two stories high, with a cellar and attics. The main block runs parallel to the road and consists of three bays, with an axial stack and a cross passage at the rear. There is an added two-bay wing at right angles to the main block, which has a gable stack and a later side stack.
An extension to the main block was added to the south in 1766, marked by the datestone FT 1766 on the stack. This extension has an elevation of four bays, with a door located in the right bay, which is axially divided. The door features six panels and is set under a simple bracketed canopy. The windows in this section are 18-pane sashes with early glass, and the eaves are sprocketed and coved. Other windows throughout the building are leaded, set in timber casements with timber lintels. The door to the earlier section is boarded and dates from the 18th to 19th century, also featuring a simple canopy.
Inside, the end room of the 1766 build is fully panelled with a chair rail, while other areas have chamfered spine beams.
