Description
West Farm, also known as Old Farm House, is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, now used as a house. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building likely started as two bays and was later extended by one bay to the left and two bays to the rear of the fourth bay. Originally one storey with an attic, it has been raised to two storeys. There is an axial stack located between the third and fourth bays, and a gable stack on the left side. The door was originally positioned in bay three but has been moved to the stair hall in bay two. The rear wing served as a bakehouse and brewhouse, featuring an external square oven. The front elevation has 19th-century four-pane sash windows and a six-panel door, with the upper panels glazed and set under a bracketed canopy. The roof was raised in the 18th century. Inside, the spine beams in bays three and four are chamfered with toothed run-out stops. There is also a fine 18th-century dentilled cupboard in a recess of the original door.
