Description
Bramble Cottage and Patrick's Cottage are two houses dating from the 15th to 16th centuries, with later alterations. They are constructed from coursed rubble limestone, which likely replaced the original timber frame. The buildings have tiled roofs with two dormers on each side. Bramble Cottage, which is three bays wide, is a single storey with an attic and features a recessed door in the central bay. The windows are 20th-century timber casements. Inside, there are two cruck trusses of apex type L2, and a spur to the wall plate. There is a major stack with an oven at the left gable and an axial stack located between the second and third bays. Both stacks have chamfered timber fire beams, and there is a possible location for a stair beside the gable stack. The right bay contains a deep chamfered cross ceiling beam. Patrick's Cottage, which is from the 17th century or later, is a cross wing to Bramble Cottage. It is also made of coursed limestone rubble with a tiled roof and features two side stacks. It is a single storey with an attic and has a 20th-century garage extension. This property was once owned by Bradenstoke Priory.
