Description
Tockenham Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th to the 19th century. It is built from limestone rubble with ashlar blocks and features a hipped stone slate roof with two dormers. The structure is two stories tall with an attic, consisting of a main block with a left extension and a rear wing on the right. The main block, which is from the 17th century, has four bays and includes a major axial stack with an oven that has been altered. The 18th-century windows are 12-pane sashes with radial flat arch voussoirs and cornice moulding. The rear wing, dating from the 16th century, has two and a half bays and contains two parallel deep spine beams with swept bar stops and carved arrow elaboration. There is a stone fireplace in the attic with a chamfered head and cornice mantel. This rear wing is taller than the main block. The left extension, likely a dairy, is from the early 19th century and has two bays with casement windows. The main block features a cambered collar roof with butt purlins. The house is said to have been partly destroyed during the Civil War when it was the residence of Sir William Button.
