Description
The White Lion Hotel is a mid-19th century Gothic building located on the west side of Market Place. It stands two storeys high with attics and features a rendered exterior. The hotel has two gables adorned with three finials, a moulded string course, and a parapet. Each gable has two windows with two mullion lights, and both floors have windows with three lights, all featuring rectangular dripmoulds. The entrance door has a four-centred head, a rectangular dripmould, and carved panels. To the right of the entrance is a two-storey canted bay window with three lights, a moulded cornice, and a rough stone plinth. The roof is topped with a row of stone octagonal chimney stacks at the center. The White Lion Hotel is part of a group of buildings that includes Nos 1 to 9 (odd), 5A, and 7A, with Nos 7 and 7A being of local interest only.
