Description
The Rose and Crown Hotel is an impressive mid-19th century Gothic building located on Castle Street. It features two side wings that flank a central section with a stepped gable, complete with a stone finial and kneelers at the gable ends. The hotel stands three storeys tall, with two windows in each wing on the top floor, which are of two lights and set under dripmoulds. The first floor has casement windows with six lights, and on the ground floor to the right, there are double carriage doors with a four-centred head. The central section showcases three stepped lights with a mullion and transom, beneath a stepped dripmould, and above it is a six-light mullion and transom, similar to the wings. It also features a canted stone bay with mullion and transom lights. There is a door located on the side elevation. The Rose and Crown Hotel, along with Nos 3 to 19 (odd), forms a group, with Nos 3 to 7 being buildings of local interest only.
