Description

No 1 Market Place is an early to mid-19th century former hotel building. It stands three storeys tall and is rendered to resemble stone, featuring rusticated quoins, an eaves cornice, and a carved bargeboard on the gable end. The building has three windows with stone surrounds and no glazing bars. The ground floor includes two windows and a doorway flanked by stone pilasters, topped with an entablature and cornice, leading to double doors with six panels beneath a rectangular fanlight. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 9 (odd), 5A, 7A, and the White Lion Hotel, with Nos 7 and 7A being of local interest only.
