Description
The premises occupied by Barclays Bank is a mid-19th century bank building located on Castle Street. It is two storeys high and constructed from carved stone. The building features an ornate chevaux de frise with iron finials and a stone parapet that is pierced by quatrefoils, along with brackets supporting the cornice. The façade has a three-over-one window arrangement, with moulded heads and colonettes. The ground floor windows are similar but set in arched reveals, adorned with foliated paterae above, and have modern glazing. A string course runs along the cills. The entrance is an arched doorway with colonettes in the reveals and trefoils in the spandrels. This building is part of a visual group with other properties on Castle Street, including Nos 27 to 37 (odd), the Swan and Royal Hotel, and Nos 30 to 46 (even).
