Description
The Town Hall, built around 1820 and designed by architect Rickman, is a two-storey building constructed in ashlar stone. It features a parapet and a moulded cornice. The front has two lancet windows with drip moulds and foliated finials, along with a central window consisting of three lancets of varying lengths. A string course runs between the storeys, displaying five armorial shields. The ground floor has three similar windows and a door flanked by colonnettes, with a drip mould featuring foliated terminals. The building sits on a plinth and has arched double doors. An octagonal bellcote with a weathervane is attached to the gable end, featuring narrow lancets at the bell storey, while the other gable end has an octagonal chimney and a flagpole. The Town Hall, along with the Andrew Carnegie Public Library, the premises occupied by the Tourist Information Office, No 4, and Church Court, forms a group with Nos 6 to 12 even.
