Description

A pair of houses, likely originally one dwelling, dating from the late 17th century. The buildings are constructed of sandstone rubble with a roof of stone slate and slate. They are two storeys in height, with an attic. Number 17, on the left, has a three-light mullioned window on each floor, featuring an inner hollow chamfer and an outer chamfer. The ground-floor window has a hood. A chamfered door surround with a triangular head is positioned to the right. A chimney is located on the left-hand gable, which also has a three-light chamfered attic window. Number 19 mirrors this design with its own three-light mullioned windows, again with inner hollow chamfers, outer chamfers, and a hood over the ground-floor window. It has a moulded door surround with a re-tooled triangular head. Both houses feature stone gutter corbels.

An extension, approximately from around 1800, projects forward to the right and is constructed of coursed sandstone with chamfered quoins and a moulded cornice. This section has windows with architraves and a stack on its gable.

At the rear of Number 17, a former four-light window, similar to those on the front, is visible on each floor. The ground-floor window has been altered by the insertion of a door and retains one mullion. The first-floor window lacks one mullion. Number 19 features a similar, complete window on its first floor and a 19th-century doorway on the ground floor. A stair window is also visible at the rear, with plain reveals, although the semi-circular plain stone head has been filled in.
