Description

No. 47 North Road is a former warehouse that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and was extended and altered in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered sandstone rubble with painted ashlar dressings and features a composition tile roof that is hipped back from the street. It has a narrow rectangular plan and retains the original loading slot on the left side wall, which is located in an enclosed yard.

The structure is three storeys high and one bay wide facing the street, with chamfered quoins. Each floor has a centrally-placed window, and there are remnants of a sill band on the ground floor. The ground floor includes a doorway to the right and a large centrally-placed entrance that has a lintel now obscured by a signboard. The windows on the first and second floors have plain surrounds and are sashed, with 16 panes in the first-floor window and 12 panes in the second-floor window. To the right, there is a lean-to addition that features a pair of 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and a single glazing bar sash above.

Inside, the upper floors are supported by large transverse timber beams, and the roof is constructed with king-post trusses.
