Description
No. 16 New Street is a warehouse built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from stone rubble, featuring dressed or selected stone quoins and segmental rubble or brick arches over the openings. The building has a dry slate roof with a hipped front end and a brick stack located to the right of the front. It has a rectangular plan and is oriented end on to the street. The structure consists of three storeys, with the ground floor functioning as a basement at the front, which includes central loading doorways leading to the first and second floors, along with old boarded doors. The left-hand return features a four-window range and a doorway with a boarded door on each floor. The ground-floor windows are secured with iron bars, while all windows have vertical glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain its original floors and roof structures. New Street is notable for its high proportion of fine 17th and 18th-century houses and some impressive warehouses.
