Description

13, The Barbican is a late 18th-century town house, later used as a shop. It is located on the west side of The Barbican in Plymouth. The building is constructed of rendered brick with a mid-floor band. It has a dry slate mansard roof, hipped on the right-hand side, with a moulded eaves entablature. A central mansard dormer features a 20th-century three-light transomed window, and a rendered stack is visible on the right. The building follows a double-depth plan with a wing extending to the rear left. It is arranged over three storeys plus an attic, presenting a three-window front. The upper floors have late 19th or 20th-century double-hung sash windows with horns. The ground floor has a late 19th-century shopfront with slender turned mullions, panelled pilasters with triple bracket consoles, and a moulded fascia entablature. To the right of the doorway is a splayed sidelight, and the doorway itself has a six-panel door. The interior has not been inspected, but may possess features of interest.
