Description
Two houses, now offices, dating from the late 18th century, with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The first lease was granted in 1792. They are built of sandstone ashlar with a slate roof and form a mirrored pair. Each house is three storeys high, above cellars, and has three bays with linked central doorways within a shared doorcase. The façade features sill bands and a cornice. Number 108, on the right, retains original glazing bar sash windows on all floors. Number 110 has sashed windows on the ground floor, with the remaining windows replaced with 20th-century casements. The stone doorcase incorporates three engaged Tuscan columns, a triglyph frieze, and a mutuled triangular pediment. The doors consist of six raised and fielded panels; the upper panels of the door to Number 110 have been replaced with glazing, which includes integral overlights with glazing bars forming an ogee shape intersected by diagonals. A three-step landing with nosings is positioned in front of the doors, and this is flanked by railings with urn finials to the standards that extend both left and right to enclose the area. Inside Number 108 is a dogleg staircase with an open string, two turned balusters per tread, Tuscan columns as newels, and a ramped handrail. The rear room on the ground floor has panelled reveals to the two glazing bar sash windows, which are separated by a fluted Doric pilaster.
