Description

No. 9, Chapel Street is a mid-18th century house, subsequently altered around 1900 and restored in 1991. Originally it included a rear wing to the right, and now has remnants of a later rear extension to the left, forming an L-plan. The construction is of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof and gable chimney stacks. A late 19th-century dormer window is present. The house is three stories high, with a cellar below, and has three bays. It features chamfered quoins and a plain frieze above the second-floor windows. All windows have raised, plain surrounds. The ground-floor shopfront dates to around 1900. The upper windows are sash windows without glazing bars, having been removed for repair during the 1991 restoration.
