Description
CROSTON DRINKHOUSE ROAD SD 42 NE 8/69 Nos. 38 and 38A - - II
House, early C19, altered to make 2 dwellings c.1930. Red brick in Flemish bond mostly with yellow headers (part repaired), tiled roof with rebuilt chimney at left gable, in front of ridge. Double-depth plan, each dwelling now one bay. Two storeys, almost symmetrical; in the centre, coupled doorways with panelled doors, traceried semi-circular fanlights, and linked Tuscan architraves of engaged columns with fluted entablatures and dentilled open pediments (the left door said to be original, the right an alteration); No. 38 has one 16-pane sashed window with splayed stone head on each floor, No. 38A has matching windows except the lower which has been repaired and is now a top-hung casement of 16 panes; in the centre, above the door to No. 38 is a blind window decorated with a rhombus. Left gable wall has a tall stairlight in the centre with altered glazing, and to the rear of this a 24-pane sliding sash window at 1st floor and another to the attic. Interior altered.
