Description
The Town Bridge, dated 1682 on the west parapet, is a sandstone bridge crossing a stream. It features a single segmental arch reinforced with an iron strap arch band, and has rounded coping to its parapets. The parapets splay out at the south end, where iron railings are located. The deck is paved with humped setts. An apex block on the west parapet bears the date 1682 in raised figures on its outer side. This small but functional bridge remains a public road bridge, situated alongside Church Street and framing the Church of St. Michael. It is a vital element within a closely-linked and both visually and historically significant group, representing the principal architectural asset of the parish centre.
