Description
Nos. 59 and 61 on Town Road are a pair of cottages dating from the late 18th century, which have been altered and are now used as a shop and a cottage. They are constructed from handmade brick and feature a stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and are designed as a reflected pair with adjoining doors. No. 61 has a segmental-headed door and one segmental-headed window on each floor, with the windows now being 12-pane top-hung casements that imitate sash windows. No. 59, to the left, has a patched wall where a door once was, a 19th-century shop front to the left that includes a sunblind case with a cornice supported by decorated scrolled consoles, and a first-floor window similar to those in No. 61. There are two chimneys at each gable, with the left ones cut down. The rear of the building has been altered. The cottages are listed for their group value, as No. 63 adjoins the right-hand end.
