Description

A row of cottages located on Church Street in Croston, likely built in the early 19th century, though in different phases of construction. The cottages are constructed of brick with a slate roof. They are arranged as double-depth dwellings, with number 7 in the centre having a double-fronted appearance over two bays. The other cottages are single-bay wide. The cottages are two storeys high. Number 7 is symmetrical, featuring a central doorway flanked by two sash windows on each floor, each window having three panes. To the right, numbers 3 and 5 have doorways on their respective right and left sides, with a single sash window on each floor; number 3’s window has four panes, while number 5’s window has no glazing bars. Number 9 has a round-headed doorway, with a top-hung casement window on each floor to the left. Number 11 has a door and a sash window with glazing bars on each floor to the left, all doorways having splayed brick heads.

At the rear, number 7 has small-paned windows including a stairwell window, while numbers 9 and 11 have windows with segmental heads. The cottages are listed solely for their group value.
