Description
Nos. 63 and 65 on Town Road are a house and cottage, which may have been a warehouse in the past. They were likely built in the late 18th century and altered in the early 19th century. The buildings are made of handmade brick and have a slate roof. They are double-depth with one and two bays and stand two storeys tall.
No. 65 is double-fronted and symmetrical, featuring a central round-headed moulded stone doorway with a triple keystone. There are two 12-pane windows on each floor, all with splayed stone heads, except for the ground floor window on the right, which has been replaced and the wall here has been rebuilt. No. 63, to the left, has a segmental-headed door on the left and a segmental-headed 12-pane window on each floor.
There are coupled chimneys on the ridge at the junction of the two buildings and a single chimney at the right gable. At the rear, No. 63 has a hoist canopy at eaves level. The buildings are listed for their group value, with No. 61 adjoining on the left and the Grapes Hotel on the right.
