Description
The Canal Bridge is a public road bridge that spans the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, built around 1796 and widened in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features a semi-elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs. The bridge has a plain band and a parapet with flat coping, although the coping on the south-east side has been replaced by a cast-iron footway. An oval number plate is located on the north-west side. The soffit of the bridge has two lateral joints, with the central section between them covered by cast-iron plates. This bridge is an important part of the group of structures at this site, which includes the adjoining Wharfmaster's House at No.85 and three warehouses located beyond it.
