Description

Moss Bridge is a public road bridge that crosses the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, likely built around 1771. The resident engineer for this project was John Longbotham, and it was constructed for the Leeds-Liverpool Canal Company. The bridge is made of coursed squared sandstone and features a semi-elliptical arch with plain voussoirs and a keystone. It has a plain band and parapets that have been repaired with concrete, along with plain pilaster terminals. There are oval number plates marked "35" on both sides of the bridge. This structure is part of one of the earliest trunk canals in the country.
