Description
Bird i'th' Hand Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with later enlargement in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and has a stone slate roof. The building features a two-unit left-hand baffle entry plan, which has been altered internally, and includes an added rear wing. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has two windows. On the ground floor, there is a doorway to the left with a thin rectangular lintel, along with two 3-light casement windows that have raised sills and simple hoodmoulds. The first floor contains two 2-light casement windows. Gable chimneys are present, and there is a blocked attic window in the right-hand gable. The rear has a one-bay kitchen wing added, which features a doorway close to the junction and casement windows to the left. Inside, the original 17th-century two-unit plan remains, although the former partition has been removed. There is a former inglenook bressummer, but the heck has been removed. A quarter-round moulded lateral beam and a cross-corner fireplace can be found in the former parlour.
