Description
Sandygate Canal Bridge is a public road bridge that spans the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, built between 1796 and 1802 for the Leeds-Liverpool Canal Company, with engineering by Samuel Fletcher. The bridge is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features a semi-elliptical arch made of rusticated voussoirs. It has a plain band, rectangular terminals, coped parapets, and concave curved abutments. On the south side, there is an oval number plate marked "130," and a large cast-iron pipe crosses the north side. The bridge is part of a group that includes the former Clock Tower Mill located at the adjoining southeast corner.
