Description

Lodge Canal Bridge is a public road bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, built around 1790 to 1796. It was constructed for the Leeds-Liverpool Canal Company, with engineering by Robert Whitworth. The bridge is made of coursed squared sandstone and features a semi-elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs, plain bands, and parapets with ridged coping. The abutments are concave curved, and there are rectangular terminal piers. An oval number plate marked "134" is located on the central voussoir on the north side. A 20th-century metal footbridge has been added to the south side. At the time of the survey in 1991, the north parapet was slightly damaged.
