Description

Lodge Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dated 1874 on the rear gable. It incorporates some materials from the adjacent early 17th century house known as "The Lodge," which was demolished in that year, and has been altered. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with a slate roof. It has an L-plan layout formed by a double-depth, double-fronted main range with a short rear wing to the left. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with cellars and an attic, and features three windows that are almost symmetrical.

The centre of the façade has a gabled single-storey porch with a moulded round-headed arch that may have originated from the earlier house. Above the porch is a notable feature: a very unusual ogival-headed five-stage 15-light mullion-and-transom stair-window. This window has ovolo-moulded mullions and transoms, an ogival hood-mould, and a coped gable with kneelers and the stumps of former finials. This window is not depicted in surviving photographs of either the front or the rear of The Lodge, suggesting it may have been created from parts of several different windows from that building.

The other windows are typical for the 1874 date, featuring vertical-rectangular openings with raised sills and plain surrounds, although the glazing has been altered. The gables are coped, and there are gable chimneys. The rear of the farmhouse has similar 19th-century window styles, and there is a datestone in the gable of the wing inscribed "RTP 1874." The interior has not been inspected.
