Description

No. 16 Langham Road, which includes No. 2 Heald Road, is a pair of houses built around 1860. They are constructed of rendered brick with painted stone dressings and feature a decorative slate roof. The building has five bays, is two storeys high plus an attic, and has small additions at the rear along with a conservatory on the left in front of an additional two bays. The design is in a fanciful Gothic style, characterized by three steep gables that are prominent, adorned with elaborate bargeboards and finials.

The end bays feature canted bay windows on the ground floor, with cusp-headed mullion windows above, and stepped 4-light mullion windows on the first floor that have arched heads and hoodmoulds. The attic windows are 2-light arch-headed with hoodmoulds. The central bay mirrors this design but includes an elaborate oriel window. Bays 2 and 4 have projecting porches with enriched octagonal piers on either side, supporting castellated pedestals topped with crocketed pinnacles and an enriched parapet. The porchways have arched openings, decorative niches, and doors with arched lights. The conservatory and side elevations are treated in a similar fashion, and the rear of the building also features three gables.
