Description
Cransley Summerfield is a house, now divided into two houses, built around 1860. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a slate roof, designed in an Italianate style with a double-depth central-staircase plan. The right-hand rooms project like a wing, creating an angle that houses a porch. The building is primarily two storeys, except for a flat-roofed single-storey bay on the left.
Notable architectural details include a stone plinth, a first-floor sill band, and projecting eaves supported by Ionic modillions. The first two bays have sash windows on both floors, while the third and fourth bays have sash windows on the first floor and the fifth bay has a sash window on the ground floor. Each window features an architrave surround, a sill panel, and marginal glazing bars.
The single-storey porch located in bays three and four is supported by square columns and topped with a coped parapet adorned with balusters. The fifth bay projects outward and includes an open-pedimented gable with a blind semi-circular headed window on the first floor. The single-storey bay has a doorway framed by stone pilasters, an entablature, and sidelights. Additionally, the garden elevation features a single-storey canted bay window.
