Description

Bowdon Old Hall is a house dating from around 1700, with alterations and additions particularly in the 19th century. It is built of brick with stone quoins and has a clay tile roof. The house is five bays wide and two rooms deep, with a central entrance, and extends over two storeys. The exterior features stone quoins, a moulded brick band on the first floor, projecting eaves, coped gables with kneelers, and four chimney stacks – two lateral and two axial. The ground floor has four blocked window openings with arched heads, now replaced by three cross windows. The first floor has five cross windows with small leaded lights, likely dating to the 19th century. A central entrance has a segmental door canopy reminiscent of the late 17th century. The rear elevation was stuccoed and completely refaced in the 19th century, incorporating a modillion cornice, quoins, two-bay windows, and a central projecting porch with an arched entrance. The interior has not been inspected.
