Description
Nos 76 and 77 on London Road (A4) are a pair of estate houses built around 1850-1860. They are constructed from squared ashlar stone and feature a slate roof with eaves, ridge, and west end stacks. The two-storey front is nearly symmetrical, showcasing long stone-mullion windows with small pane casements. There is an off-centre projecting gable that includes a 3-light window with a hoodmould above a canted bay window with a 1-2-1-light arrangement. On each side of the gable, there are Tudor-arched porches with stepped parapets. Each wing has a single range of 2-light windows, with the lower window featuring a hoodmould and the upper window located in a dormer that breaks the eaves. The right wing, No 76, is shorter and has an additional parallel rear range. No 77 includes a 2-light window over a canted stone bay with a 1-3-1-light arrangement at the east end, along with a rear wing that has a 3-light window with a hoodmould and a 2-light window in the dormer gable.
