Description
The lodge to Rumsey House, built in the early 19th century, is constructed of ashlar and features a low hipped slate roof with a tall rear ashlar stack. It is a single-storey building with two 12-pane sash windows. The lodge has raised piers at the center and ends, a moulded cornice that breaks forward over the piers, and a parapet with dividing piers topped with ball finials. There are screen walls on each side, with a door to the left and a blank opening to the right, and the walls extend south to connect with ashlar piers. On the north side, there are three similar piers, two of which are half-height and one full height to allow light, all connected by iron spearhead railings. The piers to the right and left of the lodge were originally gate-piers, with a similar pier between them that separates the carriage entry from the pedestrian entry. All piers have a square plan with convex faces, reeded bands, and rounded square caps.
