Description
The barn located to the north of Moss Farmhouse is a disused structure dating from the 16th century. It features timber crucks with later brick walls and an asbestos roof. Originally consisting of six bays, the barn has been reduced to three bays since 1960, with the southern end having been demolished. Each of the three remaining pairs of crucks includes a tie beam, except for the northernmost pair, which has been replaced by spurs. The barn also has a collar and a yoke, although the second pair of crucks includes a yoke strut instead. The through purlins are supported by concave wind bracing. It is noted that this barn was originally the longest barn in Cheshire, as mentioned by W.A. Singleton in "Moss Farm Bowdon," Cheshire Life, January 1959.
